Based on a fallout shelter from the times of the cold war is the building complex
where we live. The shelter itself is still functional, even though not equipped
with food or other material you'd certainly like to have when you're locked in in there.

Today, the upper floor serves as a garage. The basement, the inner section where the
radioactive protection area is, serves as storage room for tenants. Even since its not
in active use, yet we still have special rules that not all space may be used for
storage - you can see these rules are not always followed:)

During summer Marie and me had planned to visit a colleague of her, Romy, and Micha
which live in Dresden over a weekend; eventually we settled to go there on a
weekend in late August - coincidentally this weekend was when the city's
birthday celebrations took place, a fact that made the city's streets even
more crowded than they are on a summer's weekend.

This year again, like in as 2009 a bunch of friends went to
Brenden into the house of Julia's family. We arrived on Friday evening,
just in time to have some Spaghetti, then drink wine. On Saturday,
the whole group had a nice long & late breakfast and then went
out to the Hüsli and the Rothaus Brewery from where we started a 5km
walk.

On May 1st 2011, Marie and me started our trip to New Zealand - at
the other end of the world. Literally being Germany's antipode, this trip
took us nearly three full days to get there, flying Malaysian Airlines
including a 15-hour-stopover in Kuala Lumpur.

had invited me to join them on doing night photography on the Hornisgrinde, on a set of decayed buildings which
formerly had been part of a military base.
Although whether in Karlsruhe was not too bad, we found the summit - if you can call it that - already below a layer
of snow. So - interesting but difficult conditions for good pictures, see yourself.

On October 3rd, Marie and me drove to Dahn in Rheinland-Pfalz
together with Marie's parents. The area
there is known as the "Pfälzer Wald" - but you could also call it Mushroom Country; see why in the
picture series. We first hiked up the hill next to the village to the so called
Jungfernsprung, then over to the Römerfels
from where we have had a really great view over the area.

This year's last "remote" vacation, Marie and me went down to the French Provence,
more exact: the Côte d'Azur
(engl. French Riviera). As high season was over, we had no problems finding
a place to stay and chose a recommended campground, Camp du Domaine.
From the campground we went over to Grasse, world capital of parfumes,
and Cassis,
where we took a touristic boad ride to the Calanques.
For Cassis, we chose the very scenic Route
des Crêtes. Each day of sighseeing was followed by at least one day beach :) .

This year's route took us to Bali; we had planned to stay in three different places -
in Manggis, near Candi Dasa, on Bali's east coast, in Ubud, a village in central Bali, and
then in Jimbaran, which is in the north area of the southern peninsula on Bali. As we had
decided to go to Bali just 3 days before we got there (we actually just paid the day before
we left) there was sometimes no big choice in regards to which hotel to stay with, but we
were pleasantly surprised about the hotels we then stayed in - see yourself:). We did some
1-day-tours through Bali's east and center and visited some temples and villages we were
told to be nice to visit.

The way back was planned to pass the Okanagan Valley, again the Rockies and back to Calgary.
