Canada 2009

This year's big trip took us to great Canada. By motorhome we made our way from Calgary, Alberta, through the Rocky Mountains to Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, Seattle (USA). The way back was planned to pass the Okanagan Valley, again the Rockies and back to Calgary.

This is the backside of my old 3rd generation iPod, lighted by high noon sun. You can clearly see the scratches that have been carved into the metal in daily use. This iPod's been featured before eg. here and here.

Cardplaying in the Schlossgarten

One Saturday, Marie and me met with Timm and Isabelle for two hours in Karlsruhe's Schlossgarten; we played a funny game whose name I already forgot.

Being in Berlin the first time

As my brother Maximilian left Karlsruhe end of last year went to Berlin, we long had the plan to go visit him there - in Friedrichshain district. The time was there in mid March, when we got a cheap flight to Berlin. In the three days in Berlin we had, we decided to do some sightseeing there, with a visit to the government district, including the Kanzleramt and the Reichstag; a visit to Potsdamer Platz, an area that was raised from ground in 10 years after the Berlin wall had been teared down. Of course, we also included a trip to the largest remaining original part of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery.

Timm's birthday

On December 14th, we gathered again in the Kap to celebrate Timm's 31st birthday. We, that were Kerstin, Olli, Gunnar, Frank, Jan, Ingrid, Tom G., Nico, Michi, Rene, Jan R., Marie and me, Isabelle and - of course - Timm. Last year's pictures are online, too.

Backpacking in Thailand

After some lengthy searches for holiday destinations, Marie and I finally settled on Thailand. Mostly, because the country is located in a warm climate where we could soak up some sun and it's considered safe for travellers. Also, we could actually go there without much preparation - just a full backpack and some information from the Internet. If you go there, you'll probably also quickly find Thaiminator, a german website dedicated to Thailand travelling.

Sunday walk to the Karlsruhe zoo

At the last weekend of October 2008, sun was shining and weather wasn't as cold as end of October could let one expect it. Marie and me both took our bikes from the bikeshed and travelled to the zoo. Zoo fee was 5EUR and you get to see quite a lot of different animals, but also a lot humans (especially families, but - hey - what would you expect from a sunny Sunday afternoon)? We both took several pictures of the animals, me on digital, Marie on film, so you can only see my results...

Exploring Toskana

In our one week holiday in July, Marie and me drove down to Italy's Toscana area. We were staying at Camping Rocchetta in Castiglione, near Grosseto which is in south of Toscana.
While there were lazy days with hanging around at the pool, we also did some excursions into the back-lands of the area, visiting some nice spots we had some recommendations for.

A weekend in Stralsund

Start of May started with a Thursday as a holiday, so Marie and me took one day of vacation and extended the following weekend. On that opportunity, we drove all the way up to Stralsund, in the former DDR. I've been to Stralsund and to the Island of R�gen back in 1998 - many things have changed since then, most noticeably in Stralsund where the city has been rebuilt and re-beautified within the last years. Starting our tour from Stralsund where we stayed with Marie's relatives, we did some day trips to R�gen (Seebad Binz, Kap Arkona) and Zingst.

Seeing the DTM @ Hockenheim

On April 13th, the DTM, a German motorsports league, started the new season in Hockenheim. As Hockenheim is pretty close to Karlsruhe, Marie and me decided to visit the race on Sunday, with access to the paddock.
The race itself was not filled with too much excitement, much to my regret, but after all it's been a nice visit, as I've been to a motorsports event for the first time (Marie used to see some motorbike races, so I think the race itself was a bit boring for her:-/)... After the race we also visited several manufacturers booths and peeked into the paddock again, to see the post-race cleanups.
